The Telecom Technician position is responsible for the installation, alterations, additions and/or repairs of low voltage systems, conductors and associated materials and equipment within the telecom construction industry.  The ideal candidate will have the ability to work in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, snow.


Include, but are not limited to the following:


Understands the scope of drawings and proceeds with work from plans and specifications

Demonstrates the ability to supervise others in their work performance

Directs and works with journeymen and helpers

Plans work and is responsible for materials and tools

Installs all work effectively, completely and in a neat and workmanlike manner

Troubleshoots all telecommunication systems

Monitors progress of work

Does layout work from blueprints, shop drawings and schematics

All phases of telecom construction such as rough cabling above/below grade, all types of backbone distribution, MDF/IDF construction, termination and testing of copper and fiber cabling systems

Performs work at various heights, up to 100’ from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks or other safe work areas

Works in restricted areas such as switchgear rooms, manholes, utility tunnels and vaults, crawl spaces and attics

Communicates effectively with all persons and parties involved with a project as necessary to ensure timely and cost effective completion of assignments

Evaluates fellow employees of a lesser skill level


Include, but are not limited to the following:


A minimum of 3 years of full time telecommunications construction experience

Clean current driver’s license and have own transportation

High School Graduate, G.E.D., or equivalent training

Knowledge of all electrical equipment and major tools

Positively identify colors of wire

Comprehension of written documents, specifications, drawings, blueprints and schematics

Must be able to use all power tools such as saws, wirepullers and power-actuated tools

Capable of digging trenches either by use of hand tools or power equipment

Operate equipment such as trenchers, skip loaders and fork lifts in a safe manner

Operate two handed tools and equipment such as cable cutters, hammer drills, shovels, picks, compression tools and jackhammers

Ability to read and interpret maps, instructional manuals, specifications, work site directions, blueprints and written or verbal instructions

Practices and comprehends safe work procedures, hazard communication, accident reporting and investigation as outlined in the Rex Moore Electrical Contractors & Engineers’ Safety & Health Guide

Must be able to lift at least 75 lbs.
