Overview

The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for successfully working with client project teams and design team, including designers and CAD operators to create complete designs.  The ideal candidate will have the ability to successfully communicate with department members, general contractors, architects, and other members of assigned projects.

 

Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Project-based supervision, coordination, and review of work for small teams of designers and engineers
  • Provide technical direction and perform quality control throughout the lifecycle of a project
  • Initial development and final review of partial or complete electrical construction permit packages, including: Single Line Diagrams and riser diagrams for power, critical routing details and system sizing, preliminary short-circuit and voltage drop calculations, and (potentially) P&ID diagrams
  • Partial development and review of Fire Alarm, Integrated Systems, and Telecom system permit packages
  • Development of key project documentation such as: Basis of Design (BOD) and Design Criteria, Sequence of Operations (SOO) for controls, switchgear, PLC, and generator/inverter systems, and commissioning Scope of Work (SOW) and/or Commissioning scripts
  • Support of overall construction and drawing development initiatives, including: internal coordination with project management, external coordination with owners, Integrated Product Delivery (IPD) teams, vendors, etc., engineering support of sales and estimating efforts, recommendations for new equipment and devices, review of submittal for critical equipment such as switchgear and relays, and visit job sites and facilitate engineering to the field as needed
  • Facilitate special engineering studies including: complete Short Circuit Analysis (SCA) including developing SCA computer models, determining duty and appropriate AIC ratings of gear and protection devices, adjusting or determining appropriate trip settings for devices, Time Current Coordination (TCC) analysis, and Arc Flash analysis and label creation; and Neher-McGrath (i.e., underground heat) calculations
  • Assist design/build sales staff with schematic plans for presentation
  • Support training of Engineers, Designers and CAD Operators

Qualifications

Include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • P.E. License in California in good standing and capable of registration in other states
  • BSEE degree from accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with building power systems, signal, and telecommunication systems, of which, a minimum of 6 years of experience in a lead position (EOR) within an engineering or similar design firm
  • Experience must be broad bases, including mission critical facilities design and industrial design
  • Extensive knowledge of NEC and building codes as it applies to electrical design, including over-current protection, conductor sizing, conduit fill, derating and clearances
  • Extensive of lighting and standard commercial/industrial products and their application
  • In depth knowledge of general construction practices, building types, and electrical construction
  • Knowledge of signal systems, including telecommunications
  • Knowledge of electrical drafting symbols, and electrical or general construction basics
  • Knowledge of electrical components, including NEMA types, area classifications requirements and sizes
  • Work within established department, utilizing established standards and support software
  • Accept and apply guidance and direction to support department standards and quality
  • Communication skills: successfully communicate with Rex Moore project managers, electricians, project members and clients
  • Acceptable driving record to utilize company vehicles for meetings
  • Experience utilizing the following software tools: Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word and Project; Bluebeam and Adobe PDF tools, AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, and/or AutoCAD Revit; ETAP and/or SKM PowerTools; AmpCalc, Cyme, or similar heat analysis tools
